Burbank Muzzleloaders, Inc. Newsletter January 2009
Members,
Dues are Due, only $75 again this year. We have been holding our own and there is no need to raise dues unless something major hits us. But you need to remember that the dues are important and need to be collected. Dues are Due and this is the last NL that you will be reminded. Send them to: Tom Trevor 11552 Swinton Ave Granada Hills, CA 91344 John Clevenger PO Box 1433 Frazier Park, CA 93550 Skip Stokes 2326 Observatory Ave. Los Angeles, CA 90027
The last match of 2008 was December 29th; it was the Trail-Walk. The day started chilly with a cold wind but we didn’t start shooting until about 9:45 and by then we didn’t need our coats when shooting in the sun. We had a wind but it didn’t seem to bother us much and it wasn’t real cold unless you were in the shade. Scores reflect the conditions:=2 0 - 1st- Skip Stokes with 17 hits
2nd- Lee Bowman with 16 hits - 3rd- Sam Baseman with 15 hits
- 4th- Tom Trevor with 11 hits
5th- Tom Andress with 8 hits - 6th- John Clevenger with 8 hits
- 7th- Ted Costello with 4 hits
The next fifth Sunday Trail-Walk will be March 29th. The March fifth Sunday Trail-Walk just might be the old fashion Trail-Walk. What’s an ‘Old Fashion’ Trail-Walk? Glad you asked, every participant starts the trail with 25 rounds (muzzleloaders start with 27), each gong must be hit before moving to the next. The person that gets further on the course is the winner. We did this on our first Trail-Walk and it was so embarrassing that we changed the rules to save face. This is still under discussion so don’t p anic yet. Maybe you should panic, just a little.
January match was the John Clevenger Missing “First Shoot of the Year”. John was missing because of the Ventura Gun Show but Tom Andress used John’s targets and did the match. It was all paper at 100, 50, and 25 yards aggregate scores. On a very warm day for January ( 80 degrees with a stiff wind) here are the results: 1st- SKIP STOKES with 133 2nd- TOM TREVOR with 121 3rd- TOM ANDRESS with 121 4th- LEE BOWMAN with 114 5th- SAM BASEMAN with 99 6th- ELI COLVIN with 98
With the wind so strong when we started we decided that all participants over 45 years old could shoot from a rest at the first target all else off hand. The wind was a problem for a while but it was a warm wind and everyone dealt with it. John was at the gun show and his stand-in, Tom Andress, ran the match for him. Everything ran smooth and was fun with good prizes, thanks Tom and John.
After the match at the club meeting Tom Andress was nominated as a Life Member of BML. The vote 99% for and one vote against, Tom Andress voted nay. He reminded us that every Life Member we voted in has died. To late now Tom you are a Life Member, maybe the nay vote will break the curse.
The February 8th club match will be our silhouette match. Silhouettes, those tough skin little animals that duck and dodge most lead thrown at them. Should you be lucky enough to hit a bunch of them you might just receive hard cash for your efforts. Not only your chance at hard cash, you receive points toward 2009 “Shooter of the Year.” Bring out your cartridge or muzzl e loader, twenty rounds at twenty animals, no one has ever hit more than seventeen, you just might set the new record. February 8th at Burbank Muzzle Loaders 9:00 am.
Did I mention that DUES ARE DUE???????? Get them in, it’s no fun begging you guys for your dues every year. DUES ARE DUE!!!!!!!
Your new Match Schedule is enclosed. Post it where it will remind you of our match every month. The matches are the major income for the club and we need you there to support us. Shoot our matches, they are fun! burbankmuzzleloaders.net See You at the Range S2
